ED5907 Career Development Theories and Tools
A critical pillar of career development professional practice is foundational knowledge in career counselling theory. Building on leading theoretical frameworks, students work with a range of career development tools, including psychometric instruments, career choice diagnostics and skills inventories.
Given rapid changes in the world of work, students build their knowledge of current and future workplace trends. The focus is on the development of substantial expertise in accessing, analysing and applying labour market data, allowing students to generate critical career management insights to apply in their practice.
Aligned with Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) endorsement requirements, this subject builds the capability of students to work professionally as career advisors, practitioners. Professional Practice workshops provide opportunities for students to apply their knowledge to both ‘real plays’ and complex career development case studies.
A ‘hands-on’ subject, providing students with the opportunity to develop counselling micro skills through applied learning activities. Career Counselling capitalises on knowledge developed across the course, translating learnings into practical experiences, ensuring that students are ready to apply counselling models to a range of career development scenarios.
We would welcome the opportunity for a discussion on the design of a targeted solution

I really enjoyed the course because it was online and I really liked the variedassessment methods, the collaborations were great because I really liked having that social aspect and learning off others. I can’t recommend enough, or say how much value I got from the teaching team. I just think they were so knowledgeable, and I always felt completely supported, I felt like I could ask any question.
Natalie Moloney - HR Professional
“Throughout the course I was working part-time in a successful and busy role and stay at home dad the rest of the time, and the flexibility of the course made juggling all of this very achievable. The teachers and staff were all very experienced, knowledgeable, and genuine in their approach to teaching and helping us get the most out of the course. The industry insights from actual people working in the industry I wanted to work in, was very valuable. The online system and mobile app made it easy to complete work and learn whenever I had extra time to as well, I could be on the train to work and load up the week’s learning on my phone in 30 seconds with no issue.”
